Rock 2.3 Released
We are pleased to announce that Rock 2.3 is now available. Rock is OBiBa’s R computation engine.
This Rock release includes:
- GraalVM native binaries (Linux amd64 and arm64) are built on release, as an alternative to running Rock on the JVM.
- Docker images are now based on the Rocker project (
rocker/r-ver), with R packages installed as prebuilt binaries from Posit Package Manager. Two variants are published:obiba/rock:2.3.0(andlatest): Rock running on the Eclipse Temurin 25 JRE, the recommended choice for long-running production servers.obiba/rock:2.3.0-native: Rock as a native executable, no Java runtime, with super fast startup and a lower memory footprint (Serial garbage collector only).
- Security fix: Bouncy Castle upgraded to 1.86.
- R repositories configuration clarified: the REST API uses
r.reposfromapplication.yml, while thereposoption ofRprofile.Ronly applies to R sessions. The unmaintainedcran.obiba.orgrepository was removed from the defaults.
Additional notes:
- No upgrade action required when Rock is deployed with Docker, just pull the latest image.
- The Rock API has NOT been modified: it will seamlessly integrate with Opal.
