OBiBa to Participate in GEFOS Osteoporosis Project
The Quebec government's Programme de soutien à la recherche has approved an initiative that will continue to identify the genetic determinants of osteoporosis. The initiative is called CIPhER (Consortium International Pour identifier les gènes de fracturE ostéopoRotique) and is led by Dr. Brent J. Richard from McGill University's Department of Medicine. DataShaper and OBiBa are main partners in this project together with the Genetic Factors for Osteoporosis (GEFOS) consortium, a European Union FP7-funded project.
The project will apply Quebecois skills and resources to the work of identifying the genetic determinants of osteoporotic fracture. This will be accomplished through the use of a Canadian DNA sample resource, and the data harmonization and sharing tools developed by DataShaper and OBiBa teams. OBiBa's role in the project will be to develop a web-based data-sharing platform that will be used across the consortium.
